WBGO
host Gary Walker will lead an event titled "Roots, Rock
and Ray" at The ShowRoom in Asbury Park, NJ. Start
time 1 p.m. Using outtakes from the documentary "Ray Charles'
America," Walker and guests will share with the public
key musical influences that shaped Ray Charles' career. On the
panel will be international jazz singer Sandy Sasso, jazz organist
Gladstone Trott, and musician Dorian Parreott whose rock band
opened for Ray Charles when he played at North Carolina Central
University where Dorian was a student in the 1950s.
Ms. Sasso and Mr. Trott will perform immediately following
the film and music discussion. The afternoon will conclude
with bluesmen Willie Mitchell and Al Holmes joining Mr. Parreott
on the jazz saxophone. |
